BRIEF BIO

Susana Rocha
Born in Braga, 1988.
Lives and works in Lisbon, since 2006.

Visual Artist. Gratueted in Painting by Fine Arts Faculty, University of Lisbon (2010), Master in Painting (2012) by the same University. Master in Teaching - Visual Arts by the Education Institute of the University of Lisbon (2013) and PhD in Visual Arts (2020) by the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Lisbon.

Founder and Artistic Director of DUPLEXwhere she develops curatorial projects, directs and produces the programming of DUPLEX gallery and the International Residency Program.

Her work has been shown in several national and international contexts, most recently in the solo exhibitions "The Body is Absent but not the Desire" at Galeria ATM (Gijón, ES)  2023, "MOM they made you a garden, but it cannot be watered" at DUPLEX (Lisbon, PT) 2023, "Parallax" at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes (Lisbon, PT) 2022 and in the group exhibitions "Gémeos Falsos" at Appleton Square (Lisbon, PT) and " Taking the Light Out of the Prism" at OGFE (Lisbon, PT).

Her practice develops around tensions, which are explored through a multiplicity of materials with characteristics with metaphorical potential, which often evoke an implicit relationship with a suggested body; that manifest a transitory meaning of life, where the experience of mourning and the absurd have a strong presence; that start from the phenomenon of suggestion to embody absence, limitation and failure.
